Pine Blanket Box
There are a few things you should know before you spend your hard earned cash on a pine blanket box. While the pine blanket box is the most common wood used for wooden blanket boxes (And wooden furniture for that matter), there are pros and cons to using this wood. But let us start with the advantages and go from there.
Pine is not only the most common wood used in wooden furniture these days but it is the most important. Demand for this wood is constant throughout the year. And there's a reason for this. They are cheaper than hardwoods. But why are they cheaper? There are two reasons. Firstly, pinewood is a softwood that is generally less durable than hardwoods like oak. Secondly, pine grows much quicker than any hardwood in the world. It is also "durable enough" for many commercial applications in the modern era.
It also has good colours (Considered neutral) that can blend well with a good variety of furniture types. This is also true for wallpaper colours. As noted earlier, furniture manufacturers love pine because of its relatively low costs. Fortunately, these lower costs are passed on to us, the consumers. As such, pine is one of the cheapest "somewhat durable" woods on the market. Constructed correctly, pine furniture generally has many many years of good use. And now for the disadvantages of pine wood. It was mentioned earlier than pine is a type of soft wood. As such it is susceptible to dents from particularly hard knocks.
Because of this, it also scratches much easier than hardwood. If you are concerned with this, you should consider oak blanket boxes. Pine is also susceptible to weather and moisture damage. For this reason, a pine blanket box should only be used indoors. In fact, any pine furniture should be used indoors. However, if you are on a budget and still want a wooden storage piece, then a pine blanket box should be more than adequate.
Like all woods, when exposed to heat or low temperatures, it will begin to change shape slightly. As long as the house does not experience too wild a temperature swing throughout the year, you should be fine. Additionally, the wood is easily marked by items that are either very cold or very hot. For that reason, you should always have a layer beneath the item. If it is a hot glass, have a place mat. Avoid harsh soaps and chemicals when cleaning as it may affect its natural stain. Back to Home
